Hybryds - Deep Blue

Athanor ATNR028

The Hybryds have been around for a long, long time and covered many styles within the musical perspective. But ever since the year 2k1 it's been reasonably quiet and only 3 releases seen the light of day (on Tantric Harmonies, Daft and the brilliant 'Lust' 12" on Spectre).

As an extra to Shinkiro's 'Deep Blue' a mCD with remixes from the Hybryds was released and because it got a catalog number itself (ATHN028) we'll review it seperatly. Even though it can only be bought in addition to the first 500 copies of the Shinkiro album.

The 'Deep Blue' is about a mans relationship to water and water has been a part of different Hybryds releases already. I recall the 93 'Soundtrack voor het aquarium' which was rereleased in '95 and also the '96 'Dreamscapes from a dark side' had a lot of water themed tracks. And also the limited release from 94 'The atavistic Fetisj'.

The four tracks on this mCD are soundwise obviously based on Shinkiro's album, but if you read that review, you know I really liked it. What The Hybryds do to it is very nice. They stay within the ambient perspective, adding just that bit of ritualistic manipulations to it which makes it more like a Hybryds release.

The only advice that can be given is simple: If you were planning on getting the Shinkiro album, this remixes are a reason to act fast!
