Atrox - Bremse Unbrauchbar

Steinklang Industries SKD14

My first knowledge of Steinklang Industries was through the release of the 'Im Stahlgewittern' vinyl box which was already some 10 years ago. This box which in the meantime has been re-released and got a younger brother still holds in my opinion the basic key to what Steinklang is: Variations of all types of noise ranging from minimal to ambient to harsh power and japnoise. And yes, they also have links towards neo-folk and agit-pop, but as this is an introduction to the new Atrox CD, we can stick to the noise relation.

If we click and find out what the description of the CD is in the renewed Steinklang store, we read: 'The new ATROX CD was especially recorded for the live gig in Tokio and contains over 60 minutes of darkdroning Experimental-Noise and Powerelectronics' and all of that is true except ... Six tracks will keep you occupied for over 70 (not 60) minutes. Very nice minimal sounds with reptitive structures and slowly changing modulations and filters.

The minimal approach in the music gives you the opportunity to explore what's in between the sounds, and there are enough releases which are so over produced where exploring is never a part of the fun. But as I stated, in this release it is!

The 30 minute titletrack is very impressive and solid, but my favorite is 'Templehof-Ferienlager'.

Limited to 333 copies and I guess quite a few of them have been sold at the Japanese concerts already, so hurry up!
