Banabila/Monoscope - Live Mix

Requiem Records

A slimline dvd-case holding 2 discs. The first one has the recording from a live-concert by Banabila, the second one turns out to be a DVD-r with the visuals of that performance. Honesty dictates me to say that I've never been a big Banabila fan so I was kinda surprised this release was given to me to review.

But, I changed my mind. This CD is one solid release as has more then enough musical change and productional aspects to remain interesting the whole (50 minutes) time.

Little games with voices, eastern influences ('UAV'), solid soundscapes, minimal beats and every now and then Michel Banabila's jazz background takes a step forward (for example in 'Black & White').

The Monoscope video perfectly fits the music. In the same way Banabila works on minimal aspects within music, Monoscope uses a minimal of visuals which he works on with loads of effects. The result is almost an hour of very worthwile video. Actually enough to buy this release already!

Many video-artist can learn from this. The use of image and color, the combination with sound ... Wow ... On ocassion you have to think twice where he gets the images from and that feeling is something I had quite a few times. Towards the end the variation becomes a bit less, but that might just as well be a result of the impressive beginning.

A final remark? It's only 11 euro ... Whadda ya waiting for?
