eRgo - Schoonscheuren DVD

Own management

The audience had a total of six opportunities to see the performance 'SchoonScheuren'. And recently they got offered the possibility to get it on DVD. As well as for those who were there as also for those who never got a chance.

This multidisciplinary performance is about oppression, being stuck and breaking out (info website). Watching it for the first time these themes didn't struck me as such, but the main reason for that will be that a registration never gives you the full monty. So I watched the DVD again ...

The material on the DVD was recorded on january 11th 2006 and right away in the opening images the multidisciplinairy character takes a stand. Powerful black and white images from Viviane Rose are projected on a screen on the back of the stage; Pounding music by eRgo, slowly transforming into completely downpitched sounds, resulting in a creepy atmosphere. And while Viviane dances, eRgo silently waits at the moment when a woman's voice seperates the icey atmosphere. A duet commences ...

The music becomes much more subdued and eRgo even starts to play guitar. The video on the screen is being combined with words while Viviane breaks the chains. Again the music changes style and I notice the music is just as multidisciplinairy as the art-forms which are used in the performance.

This DVD is good registration from the performance and definitly worth it for people who are into performance-art. A small spot on the clean slate is caused by the quality of the audio which - if it would have been produced a bit better - would have given the performance a much more intense feeling. Next to that 12 minutes is a bit on the short side to name it a full release. But if those are the only remarks ....
