Niko Skorpio - Escape from heaven

The CD 'Escape from heaven' opens with a gorgeous mix of found footage and drones and through the repetition a kind of rhythm is created in the background with all the voices. This is very promising, especially when it turn out that the second track 'Fall of Fame' continues where the first track ended. There is a difference in how the voices are put into the stereo perspective and as slowly the samples create a rhythm a ritual atmosphere is created.

But then ... The titletrack sucks. I can't describe it otherwise as full riffs of Slayer's 'Angel of Death' with over-reverbed vocals. Easy to make, useless in effort.

'Downfall of the Absolutes' is again a beautiful soundscape with ritual aspects, ending in a very deep bass-drone, but sadly the Slayer track is still in my head. Still this fourth track is my absolute favorite of the CD.

The CD continues with some kind of song and even though it's not a bad composition, the massiveness of reverb is just a bit over the top. The info-sheet which is sent with the CD talks about a tribute to TG, Coil and PTV and yes, I definitly do hear the PTV influences in times of 'Terminus'.

The rest of the CD just about continues in this style ... You hear a bit of oldschool industrial and Industrial Records, but I must admit I personally expected more from Niko. A tribute is more then trying to sound as ...

Maybe the final track on the CD ('Towards Distant 93') should be mentioned because of the intense creepy atmosphere which is generated by the effects on the vocals. An atmosphere which slowly transforms into a beautiful industrial sounding soundscape which would make (for example) Frozen Faces vaty happy.

This can be a very nice addition to collections of fans of Industrial Records, but others might give it a listen first.
