Pan Sonic - Katodivaihe

Blast First Petite

Before saying anything about 'Katodivaihe' - which is the new Pan Sonic album - I want to make sure that all those who already know and like Pan Sonic have left their current environment (worldly or virtual) to obtain a copy of this album at once! Do not wait, I repeat, do NOT wait. Either go to a store in real life, or visit a webstore carrying this album. Now!

Soooo ...

Pan Sonic has been around for quite some time already. Their first release dates from 1994 and in those 13 years of activity they kept on developing their sound which is deep layers of techno-related rhytms and a combination of pure frequencies and strange noises. They could be labelled the missing link between contemporary industrial, noise and techno music, incorporating these styles to an explosive mixture of mindfucking brilliance.

The title of the album 'Katodivaihe' probably translates to 'Cathodephase' (my Finnish isn't that good) which is an electronic term and has something to do with tubes (basically old-school transistors from way back when you could still buy 8-tracks or tape-reels). And the title does fit this release perfectly because a lot of the sounds have that analog feel to them.

"There is no theory for Pansonic. We have no plan. We just make the music."
- Mika Vaino

The above quote from one of the Pan Sonic members actually says a lot about what to expect. All the tracks have that something extra without knowing what that extra is; Allthough at three of the tracks on this album they get the help from the Icelandic celloplayer Hildur Gudnadottir and yes ... A cello mixed into the sound of Pan Sonic definitly creates a whole different feel.

Yes, a cello ... And loads of analog sounds ... And weird beats ... And great ambience ... And what are YOU waiting for?
