Cisfinitum – Devotio

Substantia Innominata

The Russian Cisfinitum, who you might know from earlier releases on Drone or the beautiful CD 'Bezdna' on the also Russian Monochrome Vision, got a chance to release a 10" in the Substantia Innominata series, the side-label from the German Drone Records. And I must say, maybe the source of the sounds is less 'unknown' then one would expect on a label whose concept and existence is based on "various aspects related to The Unknown", but the release is not any less because of this! The white and grey marbled vinyl in beautiful artwork by Tilmann Benninghaus is "dedicated to our immortality" and there are enough unknown factors about our afterlife.

Church bells turned into gorgeous drones through well chosen manipulation and sound management. Slightly gothic but with these source materials one wouldn't expect anything different. The second part gets some additionele vocals (or so it seems) adding to the dark and relaxed yet haunting atmosphere. It resembles the feeling of being chased by the immortal in an empty cathedral somewhere in a far away land ...

For a reasonably new label, Substantia Innominata's output has a very high quality catalog upto now. And this release only adds to it.
