Troum - Aiws

Transgredient Records

There have already been a few reviews from this CD and most of them mention the fact that 'Aiws' is the first full-length Troum CD in about four years. This information is mentioned in the info-sheet which was sent with the album, but when we look at the Troum page at discogs.com (link) (http://www.discogs.com/artist/Troum) ... Well, I'm confused. It just seems as if the 10 releases in the meantime weren't really serious, and they certainly were!

So to make a long story short, there is a new Troum album and it's gorgeous and contains exactly that what you would expect: Music which is more then obvious made by people who know how to interpret the sound described by the words ambient, isolationist, experimental, droning and emotional.

'Aiws' contains nine tracks with lengths in between 2 and 10 minutes. The soundsources for this album were Sufi-songs, old vinyl-crackles, acoustic and electric guitars, e-bow, e-bass, multiple variations of the voice, accordion and a flute. These instruments and the fact that all tracks were recorded on 4 or 8 track analogue machines give this album a very organic feeling. And a routined listener will understand that the organic touch only adds when it concerns music from a project like Troum.

If you are still reading this review, you have a certain interest in Troum's music. Take it from someone who knows, buying this album is something you won't regret.

Go with the flow: This is dream-music.
