Rapoon - Seven Pillars of Fire

Thisco Thisk.26

The short version of Rapoon's life is "Robin Storey, zoviet france, solo, ritual ambient and minimal beats". To give this ultra short release on the Portugese Thisco label (in colabboration with Fonetica Municipal de Lisboa) a little extra attention I'll stick to that. His website (see link at the bottom) holds all the information you're looking for, as well as an overview of his almost 50 releases.

The CD-r has only one 20 minute track en that track is gorgeous, the end. It starts of with a ritual approach in the beginning and through really dark ambient and obvious Arabian influences (Imam? Casbah?) it ends in a story told with chaotic sounds.

The first 10 minutes personally remind me the most of his masterpiece ':Raising Earthly Spirits:' which was released in 1993. The second half shows some resemblance to Muslimgauze, albeit without the repetitive beats.

For people who already have some Rapoon this is a delicious inbetween, for those who don't own any of his music yet, but are adventurous enough to meet his ambient side it's a perfect beginning.
