Landing - Brocade

Strange Attractors Audio House saah037

This for me completely unknown label released the new CD by Landing. Without looking what it is and where they come from I put it in the CD-player. The quiet repetivity from minimal guitars and analg synths get to me at once.

One of the first comparisons which come to mind (being a reviewer you always try to find a point of reference to be able to advice people) is not G.Y.B.E. or some other connected guitar-drone-deity. No, it's The Notwist, just about the '12' era. Maybe a bit more spacerock and definitly not the crunchy tracks, more like 'Torture Day' or so ...

Let's check out the websites from label and band.

Wow ... 'Brocade' is their 7th full-length ... Also a split with Windy and Carl ... None of the Strange Attractor bands I actually heard of ... Same goes for the releases ... New frontiers ...

The second track continues its way, nicely and relaxed. Nice to play while working. The trancy feel is cut open by distorted guitars with a seemingly endless sustain. Fear Falls Burning might get envious when he'ld hear it.

Akoustic guitars open the third track and a harp-like sound joins in. Together they hop along the spectrum of the soundscape. They meet an analog synth and a slightly distorted solo-guitar. "We're going to see the wizzard ..." and they continue to follow the yellow brick road.

The final two tracks are - well - different, but DAMN they're good! Track four is shoegazer paradise: nice noisey guitars, steady drums and dry, clear vocals. The CD ends with a nice ambient piece entitled 'Music for three synthesizers'.

It's very diverse and maybe this diversity isn't for all to appreciate, but it's a very good album nevertheless.
