Z'ev - Rhythmajik

SmallVoices SVR04010

Z'evs most recent album 'Rhythmajik' is a highly concuptual album, and definitly not for the weak. It is as audio document suggested to accompany the release of the book about Rhythmajik - which is available through SmallVoices too.

One of the questions to be answered is if the CD is strong enough to stand on its own, or if it really needs the book. Well, first part of the answer is that the book is written in Italian, so as a large part of the world won't even be able to read it: No, it doesn't need the book.

The second part of the answer lies in the strength of the music. There are 32 tracks on the CD. All minus one are related to the nine "foundation numbers" and the twentytwo namens of the numbers in order of their magnitude. Seven inner heavenly bodies, twelve houses of the zodiac and finally air, water and fire.

Z'ev uses mostly handmade metal persussion, titanium plates, low steel drums and gongs. The additional information we got with the CD speaks of 5000 (!!!) beat patterns which have been used. All I can say is that it intrigues me. I'm not into majik and numerology, but this is very interesting matter for people who like to explore.

The 32rd and final track on this album is called 'Nine Chambers' and meant to be used for a specific type of meditation.

Very probably a MUST HAVE for the numerologists and majicians amongst us. But also something to try for people who enjoy ritual percussion.
