Kallabris - Off mind

Entr'acte Entr'acte 26

Philisophical soundscapes have been the output of the German Kallabris for quite some time already. It is the solo-project of Michael Anacker, who some of you might know fram the legendary Cranioclast. I had the pleasure of meeting him a few years ago in Belgium and i was surprised by the beauty and depth of his work.

The release is packed in a newspaper where the sites only have one sentence each, which creates a confrontation with newspaper as medium where the conclusion can only be that 'they have nothng to say'. All written words reflect i.m.o. on this subject which makes this release more then a release; it's closer to a work of art.

The 3" CD-r has three tracks, respectivly a little over 9, 1 and 6 minutes. Slow minimal rhythms created with analog synths (?) form the base of ambient soundscapes which chattering german female vocals. A bit too incoherent for a non-native German speaker to follow, but it intrigues and you play the tracks again to find some recognition. Is that why we keep on reading papers? Or is that what she says the same as in the newspaper, and do we only read, remember and understand parts of it?

This release is one for the books. Kallabris would have fitted perfectly on Raster Noton for example, in between the giants of minimal electronics like Alva Noto and Ryoji Ikeda.
