Mark Swift - Ave Mavis

Sublight Records

Sublight Records is known for their breakcore-ish and IDM-like releases. This album from Mark Swift falls in the IDM category. Sometimes quite a bit faster and more filled out then what one would expect in that genre, but it is way too melodic and open to come anywhere near the breakcore genre.

'Ave Mavis' is the first release from Mark Swift and from the liner notes we understand he is from Yorkshire, UK just like many a good artist from the IDM genre.

To the question if he can measure up with some of his fellow countrymen one can only reply with honest reserves. Not too many bad words about the tracks - they definitly build a good atmosphere and they're quite danceable at times - but more about the release as a whole; The tracks don't form story all together, something which one would expect in releases within this genre.

The sounds and rhythms will appeal to fans of electroclash (lots of Atari & 8bit sounds and bleeps) as well as people who enjoy fast though non-intrusive music. For me on a personal level it's all a bit too tame ...
