Moljebka Pvlse - Sadalsuud

Some Place Else

This man, known to the world as Moljebka Pvlse, already released an impressive bunch of CD's on just as many impressive labels. His new album 'Sadalsuud' has the honour to be released in the capable hands of Niko Skorpio's Some Place Else from Finland.

Mathias Josefson who is Moljebka Pvlse, currently attends the Royal University College of Fine Arts and as an admirer of some of his previous works, I personally was very curious if this education would be of any influence on his recent work. And with a llittle bit of pain in my heart, I have to say it probably does ...

'Sadalsuud' is a very good drone album, it provides a solid yet dynamic tapestry of sounds, which is in my vocabulary the definition of a good drone. You can definitly listen to the album a lot of times and still be able to discover new sounds and structures. But in all honesty I have to say I still think his release 'Koan' on Eibon records is a lot better.

The music was created by Mathias using sounds several friends and collegues provided. This makes it a sort of collaborative piece of work reminiscing of the 80's mail-art projects. But the result is too much of a unity to my taste. It wouldn't have been bad to have times on this record where a certain instrument of sound would be the main theme; creating a recognisable phrase in the composition. It all has becomeone piece of music which is good, but which could've been more ...

The note the album gets is a 7,5 out of 10 which to me means it's definitly a good album. But Moljebka Pvlse is capable of scoring at least a 9 out of 10, and this albm just doesn't deserve it.
