Xabec - Transformed

Hands Productions

The name Manuel Richter may be unknown to many of you, but his project Xabec might ring one or many bells. When a new Xabec release has been made available to the public, I always try to be one of the first to get is in my filthy greedy hands. So be aware that this review might be 'slightly' biased because of my personal opinion on the artist you're about to read about.

Or are you?

'Transformed' by Xabec isn't a new album by Xabec; It is a collection of remixes and therefore tributes made by other artists, celebrating the music by Xabec. The front of the always exquisite Hands release reads "Xabec transformed by ..." which is something different then "Transformed by Xabec" which would mean a new Xabec album, with that given title.

The artists on this album range from lesser known names like Incite, Wild Shores and Atmogat to the great masters of ambience (Alio Die and Northaunt) and (experimental) beats (Contagious Orgasm, Orphx and Ah Cama-Sotz). And each one of them does a very good job in paying tribute to the man who deserves it.

The originals which are being remixed are taken from various Xabec releases, though most of them can be found on 'Using Unused Methods' and 'Seelenschiff', both of them releases worth adding to yoour collection themselves. And as you expected, there aren't any bad tracks on here. Each artists adds something from him- or herself and thus additional layers are created.

If you consider this a "Various Artists" release, it wil get a 8,8 out of 10 possible points, because it is great listening. As a nex Xabec album, the note will be a bit lower, because it has more sounds added over the remakes of the original tracks. And his well thought of minimalism is one of the aspects I personally admire Xabec for.
