Goem - Robbed

SmallVoices

Holland is just a small country close to the sea, albeit just the Northsea and not a real ocean or so. The number of inhabitants is around 17 million, which isn't also too much for the size of the land. Worldwide it is known for being largely under sea-level, very open-minded towards the use of marihuana and euthanasia and ... Experimental music.

Staalplaat (tr: plate of steel) which is now located in Berlin is Dutch in origin and when it was still based in Amsterdam it used to be the most innovative record label around: Trendsetting if you prefer. And probably with this open-mindedness towards experiments the Dutch experimental scene has been and always will be blooming.

Goem is a Dutch project by Frans de Waard, Peter Duimelinks and Roel Meelkop allthough this specific release has been produced by only Roel. If those names don't ring a bell, maybe their projects do: Kapotte Muziek, Beequeen and THU20.

We can probably fill a few websites with everything these people did for the experimental music, but we'll minimize it to the 'Robbed' CD on SmallVoices. Eight untitled tracks form a journey through experiments with ambient layering and rhythmic structures. The result is what best can be described with "electronic music". Think Kraftwerk, but productionwise lots rougher and unpolished. Think Vromb, but less structured and more experimental.

A very good example that Holland is still very much alive concerning experimental music.
