Various Artists - Dark Ambient Radio volume 2

Dark Ambient Radio

A lot of what we nowadays call dark ambient is based on the filmic approach towards soundscapes. And in that style one of the absolute masters was / is Brian Williams aka Lustmord. So when an album is being released with the title "Dark Ambient Radio" you shouldn't be surprised that indeed a lot of the music - though not all - will remind you to the master himself.

The CD has 11 tracks and even though my knowledge of dark ambient acts reaches quite far, I hadn't heard of eight of them. So it's exploration tme again!

Best known names on this CD are Phelios and Troum, who both present massive pieces. Troum's 'Pina' almost hits the 10 minute mark and is really, really very nice (that bass). The third name I had heard of was Tholen who open the CD. You also might know them from their release on the Canadian Cyclic Law label.

The more (or total) unknown acts on this sampler aren't bad at all, they are just not known. The only problem is that a whole series of unknown acts on a sampler doesn't sell all too well.

As said before, the CD isn't bad at all and definitly worth exploring the unknown. Especially if the spheric soundtrackish dark ambient is your thing. If you are more a fan of minimal noise / drones styled ambient, then other albums will be more worth your attention.
