That friday morning a plain brown envelope hit my doormat with only two words written on it - From Thermidor - and a big red stamp yelling 'Confidential'. What was this about? What secretive organisation did I get myself into by writing reviews? Carefully I opened the envelope because I felt something was in there. Out came two propagandic pamflets and a thin case holding a CD ...
The atmosphere created with the artwork is really great; Like a secretive society on the virge of taking over the world. This demo must have the second most original packaging of 2006 so far, the 'Travel Sickness' box on Hymen Records being the best.
First listening, hoping the release wouldn't start with a remark like 'After first contact with a laserbeam, this CD will selfdestruct within 42 minutes and 18 seconds'. Yes, it has gotten to the point where one would almost become afraid to listen to the music. But it turns out to be all 'OK'. No messages, no people at the door, allthough, the telephone did ring, and there was only a silence ...
Four soundscapes, built from ambience, found footage, improvisation, erratic sounds, melody lines; There aren't any for example noisey moments or rhythmic structures. Musically and atmospherically it reminds me of older material on Cold Meat Industry. Definitly worth an official release, even though at a few moments another sound or structure would have added to the dynamics of the album.
