Rapoon - From shadows sleep

essencemusic

Breaking my head over where the f*** I heard about Essence Music before ... And then it came to me. It's the Brazillian label that released the re-release of Atomine Electrine's 'Elemental Severance' together with another long sold-out album from Raison d'Etre's side-project. A minimal cardboard design which was within its minimal approach still a deluxe packaging, containing some great music.

Going on expedition on the Essence Music website I then find out that every release knows two different packages: One is normal, one is deluxe. So when I was sent the new Rapoon 'From shadows sleep' you can only imagine my surprise that this gorgeously plain grey box with 11 postcard-sized inlays and embossed printing ... Well, it turns out to be "just" the normal edition!

On this CD Rapoon takes you on a journey through hard to reach places - 'The Pit Under The Castle', 'The Endless Plains' and 'The Fall Of Babylon' - and impossible to describe states of emotion - 'The Shadows Approach' or 'The Burning Frost'. Dark ambient states of mind and aural descriptions of places you don't want to be found either dead or alive.

The result is an album which brings you back into the early Rapoon releases. Non-rhythmic ambience with a touch of soundstructures like zoviet france - of whom he was one of the founding members - and intelligent droning.

Eighthundred copies are made of this one, a truely perfect addition for someone whose collection is part ambient, part ritual.
